Pilgrimage to Lisieux, Rouen and Chartres

Basic Itinerary

DAY ONE - MONDAY

Lewisham - Portsmouth - Caen - Lisieux

Early morning transfer by coach to Portsmouth where we board a ferry to the French port of Caen, and onward transfer to Lisieux for a four-night stay in the Hermitage of the monastery of Carmel. Dinner will be in our guesthouse for the four nights of our stay.

DAY TWO - TUESDAY

Lisieux

Today will be spent in Lisieux, the home of St Thérèse of the Child Jesus from early childhood until she died in 1897. After breakfast we have a walking tour of the town, including St Peter’s Cathedral, Les Buissonets, the Carmel where St Thérèse lived and the majestic basilica built to honour Thérèse’s canonisation. Mass will be celebrated during the course of the morning. The afternoon is free for your own explorations.

 

DAY THREE - WEDNESDAY

Lisieux

Today will be free for private devotions, exploration of the town and time to buy souvenirs. Mass will be celebrated at the Hermitage this morning.

DAY FOUR - THURSDAY

Rouen

We spend today in Rouen, the capital of upper Normandy, a splendid medieval town. We visit the 12th century cathedral of Notre Dame, for a guided tour. Mass will be celebrated here. We also visit the Tour Jeanne D’Arc, the keep where Joan was tortured in May 1431, and part of which is now devoted to Joan’s life. The narrow streets of Rouen are ideal for browsing, and there will be time at leisure here, before the return to our hotel for dinner.

DAY FIVE - FRIDAY

Lisieux - Chartres

This morning we drive south to visit the great cathedral of Chartres, dedicated to Our Lady. There will be a tour of the cathedral, where the stained glass windows will be interpreted by a local guide. Lunch is included in a local restaurant. There will be time at leisure to explore the medieval town. Check into our centrally located hotel for an overnight stay. Dinner is at choice tonight.

DAY SIX - SATURDAY

Chartres - Calais - Dover - Lewisham

After our final Mass in Chartres, drive to Calais to board our ferry to Dover and onward journey to Lewisham.

Terms of Payment: Deposit of £150 (plus the travel insurance premium if the cover we offer is required) per person on booking, balance payable two months before the departure date.

This tour will be led by a Roman Catholic priest. However, members of all Christian denominations will be welcome.
