Lourdes

Introduction

Lourdes is a small town in Hautes - Pyrenees region of southwest France. In 1858 Our Blessed Lady Appeared to a young peasant girl, Bernadette Soubirous, at the Grotto of Massabielle in this town. Since then many millions of pilgrims have prayed in Lourdes, requesting Our Lady to intercede on their behalf to her Son, Jesus Christ, and responding to Our Lady's wish that Bernadette should tell people to come on pilgrimage to Lourdes. Visit the original spring, discovered by Bernadette as she dug with her hands into the ground at Our Lady's request. This spring is now channelled into the Baths where many people have been miraculously cured and where it is possible to bathe. Take part in the Blessed Sacrament Procession where the sick are blessed and remembered in prayer. Pilgrims also visit places connected with the life of St Bernadette as well as her childhood home in Batres. Pax Travel is able to offer 4, 5 or 8-day pilgrimages for private groups (minimum 16 participants) throughout the year.

Basic Itinerary

DAY ONE

London - Biarritz, Pau or Toulouse - Lourdes

Travel from Stansted, Gatwick or Luton to Biarritz, Pau or Toulouse Airport by scheduled flight. Transfer by coach to the Hotel Stella Matutina (or similar) in Lourdes for a three-night stay. After dinner there will be a walk to the Grotto.

DAY TWO

Lourdes

This morning we will attend the Mass celebrating Our Lady of Lourdes. In the afternoon we will take part in the Eucharistic Procession. After dinner in the hotel we have the opportunity to take part in the Torchlight Procession

DAY THREE

Lourdes

This morning Mass will be celebrated in Lourdes. After a group photograph in the Domain we return to the hotel for lunch. In the afternoon we will pray the Stations of the Cross and will have a guided walking tour visiting the places associated with Bernadette Soubirous.

DAY FOUR

Lourdes - Biarritz, Pau or Toulouse - London

After our final Mass to close the pilgrimage, transfer to Biarritz, Pau or Toulouse for our return flight to London.

Deposit of £120 per person on booking (plus insurance if required). Final payment due two months before the departure date.

Accommodation in shared twin-bedded rooms with private facilities at the Hotel Stella Matutina (3-star) (or similar), Lourdes. Mass will be celebrated each day. 2 lunches in Lourdes.
