Fatima and Santiago de Compostela
Introduction
A pilgrimage that combines a visit to the Sanctuary of Fatima with a journey to the Shrine of St James the Apostle in Santiago de Compostela.
Basic Itinerary
DAY ONE - SATURDAY 25TH SEPTEMBER
London - Lisbon - Fatima
We fly from London to Lisbon. On arrival, transfer by coach to Fatima and check into our hotel for a seven-night stay. Before dinner, we walk to the Sanctuary and celebrate Mass.
DAY TWO - SUNDAY 26TH SEPTEMBER
Fatima - Aljustrel
Fatima is known as The Hope of the World, where Our Lady appeared to three little shepherds between 13th May and 13th October 1917. This morning we have a guided tour of the Sanctuary including a visit to the Basilica and the Chapel of the Apparitions. Mass will be celebrated during the morning. After lunch, we proceed to Aljustrel for Stations of the Cross and to visit the shrines and the children’s homes, before dinner in the hotel.
DAY THREE - MONDAY 27TH SEPTEMBER
Fatima - Coimbra - Santiago de Compostela
Early departure to call in at St Theresa’s convent, Coimbra, where Sister Lucy, one of the visionaries, used to live. After a break for lunch we cross the border into Spain and continue to Santiago de Compostela where we check into our central hotel for a two-night stay. Dinner will be in a local restaurant.
DAY FOUR - TUESDAY 28TH SEPTEMBER
Santiago de Compostela
After breakfast we visit the Shrine of St James and celebrate Mass in the Cathedral. We will then have a guided tour of the cathedral and its surroundings. The cathedral has an amazing baroque façade hiding the much earlier Romanesque building lying on the site where in the 8th century it was thought the tomb of St James had been discovered. The climax for us is touching the great figure of the saint behind the altar. The afternoon is free for your own exploration.
DAY FIVE
Santiago or La Coruņa - London
We leave for Santiago or La Coruña airport for our return flight to London.
