Pilgrimage to Assisi & The Land of St Francis

Travelling to Italy, 14th - 21st September 2019.
Travel to Rome by scheduled flights from Manchester. On arrival transfer by coach to our hotel - located within the old town of Assisi, just few meters from the Basilica of St Francis – for a seven night stay. Dinner will be in the hotel.
Breakfast in the hotel. This morning there will be the opportunity to attend the Sunday public Masses taking place in Assisi (Edith Pearson will be able to provide you with the different times). You may wish to attend Mass in English at nine o’clock in the Basilica of St Francis. Lunch is at choice. This afternoon we meet our local guide for a walking guided tour of the old town. Dinner will be in the hotel.
After breakfast we walk to the Lower Basilica of St Francis to meet one of the resident Franciscan friars for a guided tour of the Basilica which will also include the Upper basilica and the Crypt where St Francis is buried. This morning we also hope to celebrate Mass. Lunch is at choice and the rest of the afternoon at leisure. Dinner in the hotel.
Breakfast in the hotel. This morning we transfer by coach to the Sanctuary of La Verna to attend the Solemn Mass. Today lunch at La Melosa restaurant is included. This afternoon we have time at leisure to give the opportunity, to those who wish, to join in the procession marking the occasion of Stigmata. Return by coach to Assisi. Dinner this evening is at choice.
This morning we travel by taxi to the Hermitage, which was a place of retreat and meditation for Francis. The taxis will wait for about forty minutes before driving down to San Damiano, where St Francis received the message from the Crucifix to repair God’s church and where, later, St Clare founded her community. From here the taxis will take us to La Rocca from where we walk back to our hotel. Lunch is at choice and the rest of the day is at leisure. Dinner in the hotel.
Breakfast in the hotel. This morning we will travel by coach to the Sanctuary of Poggio Bustone before we continue to the Sanctuary of Greccio. Time permitting, on the way to Greccio we will make a stop at the sanctuary of Fonte Colombo for a visit. Today lunch is included at the Belvedere restaurant in the town of Greccio. We then return by coach to Assisi. Dinner tonight is at choice.
Breakfast in the hotel. Today will travel by taxi to the Sanctuary of the Rivotorto, the first house of the Franciscan order. We then continue to the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli where we visit the Porziuncola, the St Francis’ original tiny chapel, which marks the site where St Francis died. Today we also hope to visit the small chapel in Bastia where Clare was taken after joining the Order and San Angelo in Panzo where Clare was joined by her sister Catherine (St Agnus). Lunch is at choice and the rest of the afternoon is at leisure. Dinner in the hotel.
Breakfast in the hotel. Today we leave Assisi and drive to Rome Fiumicino Airport where we check in for our return flight Manchester.

This tour involves a substantial amount of walking, some of which will be over irregular surfaces such as cobblestones and badly-maintained walking areas. If everyday walking is something you find difficult, this tour may be unsuitable for you.
