Pilgrimage to The Holy Land

Led by Pastor Victor Olayebo, 25th October - 31st October 2020
Check in at Heathrow Airport for our 4:35 pm departure to Tel Aviv. We arrive at Ben Gurion Airport late in the evening. This evening’s dinner is during the flight. After collecting our luggage, we transfer to Bethany in the Jerusalem area to check into our accommodation for a three-night stay.
We proceed to the Mount of Olives. Visit the Chapel of the Ascension, the Church of the Pater Noster, and stop for a panoramic view across the Kidron Valley to Temple Mount and the Old City of Jerusalem. Walk down to the Church of Dominus Flevit, and the Church of All Nations in the Garden of Gethsemane. Stroll through the Christian Quarter and the rediscovered ancient Cardo. This afternoon we visit Bethlehem via the Shepherds’ Fields, then visit Manger Square, the Basilica and the Cave of the Nativity, the birthplace of Jesus Christ. Visits to the pool of Siloam and Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust Memorial and Museum. Mass will be celebrated during the course of the day.
This morning we visit the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in the Old City of Jerusalem where we hope to celebrate an early worship service, followed by a walk to the Ecce Homo Arch, where Jesus was presented to the crowd. Visit the Lithostrotos, the pavement where Jesus was tried and scourged within the convent of the Sisters of Zion. Afterwards, continue our walk to the pool of Bethesda and Crusader church of St Anne. Follow the Way of the Cross along the Via Dolorosa through the narrow streets to Calvary, enshrined within the church of the Holy Sepulchre. This afternoon we visit Mount Zion to visit the Abbey of the Dormition, Room of the Last Supper (Cenaculum), and continue to the Church of St Peter in Gallicantu, where Peter denied Christ three times. Afterwards visit the Western (Wailing) Wall and the site of the original Temple.
We drive to the home in Bethany of Mary and Martha and also of Lazarus, whom Jesus called to life from the tomb (John 11:1 - 44). Proceed to the shores of the Dead Sea, lowest spot on Earth (for a bathe if time permits). See a view of Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered and have lunch. We continue northwards through the Jordan Valley, stopping at the River Jordan where we have a baptismal service before driving past Jericho, the oldest inhabited city in existence, where Jesus tarried on his way to Jerusalem (Matt. 20:29) and finally reaching Tiberias where we check into our hotel for dinner and a three-night stay. Short prayer and worship at the hotel.
Drive to Mount Tabor, taking a taxi ride up the zigzag road to visit the Church of the Transfiguration. Drive inland to Nazareth where we visit the Basilica of the Annunciation and the house of St Joseph and Mary’s Well. Continue to Cana, where Jesus performed his first miracle of changing water into wine. Mass will be celebrated during the course of the day. Visit Caesarea Philippi, the site of Peter’s Confession that Jesus is the Christ of God. Note: Mt Carmel will be visited either today or tomorrow.
We drive along the shores of the Sea of Galilee to see the places where Jesus lived and worked. Start with the tranquil Mount of Beatitudes, where Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount. See Banias, one of the sources of the River Jordan. We head south to Tabgha and the Church of the Loaves and Fishes and Church of St Peter's Primacy. After lunch in Magdala and a visit to Mary Magdalene's village we head for Peter's house at Capernaum. Prayers and worship to be celebrated during the course of the day.
We have a very early morning transfer from the hotel to Tel Aviv, Ben Gurion Airport where we check in for our 7 am departure to London, arriving at Heathrow, Terminal 3 at 10 am.
